In her political career, Besty Devos is an active member of the Republican Party. Her commitment to supporting school programs is well-known among her political colleagues and to the general public. She once served as a committeewoman in her party for the Michigan between 1992 and 1997 and later acted as the chairwoman of the same party for four good years, between 1996 and 2000.

President Donald Trump nominates Besty Devos

In November 2016, President-elect Donald Trump made an announcement that he has selected Besty Devos to serve in his government as the secretary of education. Her nomination got officially approved despite strong opposition back in January 2017. She officially assumed office on 7th February 2017.

Her Philanthropy and Activism

Besty once chaired The Philanthropy Roundtable board of directors. Her Philanthropy work is however much evident in The Prince Foundation where she gets severally listed as the foundation’s vice president and Dick and Besty Devos Family Foundation.

In 2004, she was appointed by the then President George Bush to serve in Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts as a board director. She managed this position until in 2010.

While at service, Besty Devos together with her husband funded a center to teach directors and managers about fundraising and governing institutions.

She is an active advocate for change in the education system in the United States of America. She highly encourages the proliferation of charter schools and private schools as well as supporting the use of schools vouchers which will enable students from all walks of life to attend private schools purely on public subsidy.

Dick and Besty Devos Family Foundation

The foundation which was founded in 1989 sole motivation of giving is based on their faith. They cultivate leaders and bring about transformation solely based on five key area. Namely, justice, arts, education, community and leadership.

Besty Devos’ full name is Elisabeth Dee DeVos. She was born on 8th January 1958 and is married to Dick Devos. According to Forbes, in 2018, Devos Family was the eighty-eighth richest family in the United States of America with their net worth amounting to approximately six billion US dollars.

Devos attended Holland Christian High School and later earned her Bachelor’s degree from Calvin College, both in Michigan.
